Wake Up Weight Watchers

Last week’s announcement from Weight Watchers to offer teens “free” summer memberships has ignited a fire in the body positive community. Why? Because teens are already at a critical time in their lives—a time when they’re more susceptible to peer pressure, body hatred, and eating disorders. 

Rather than tell teens that their bodies are the problem and their diets are to blame, it’s more important that we teach them that all bodies matter and all foods fit. Bodies are ever-changing. They are not the same from year-to-year, month-to-month, or even day-to-day.

So teenagers, I encourage you to spend your summer doing what makes you happy—spend time with your friends, move your body, and enjoy your food. Cultivating a positive relationship with your body and food will make a lasting impact on your health.
